A button-down cardigan sweater or vest with a classic fit in six sizes S(M, L, 1X, 2X, 3X), featuring a Tartan knit/purl fabric, cable details, set-in sleeves (vest has ribbed armhole trim), and a standing ribbed collar. Body is knit in one piece to the underarm; sleeves are knit flat. Works up beautifully in solids, tweeds, or tonal variegated yarns.

"I designed Highlander 13 years ago using Briar Rose Fibers Glory Days, which is now discontinued. the colorway is a hand-dyed selection from Briar Rose; if you check out her website, you may find something similar to use instead! (Cowl pictured on model is Rain on a Hot Tin Roof.)

This pattern is both written and charted and can be transferred to your Ravelry Library upon request.

Buttons: 8(8, 8, 8, 9, 9) .75-inch (2 cm) buttons; stitch markers; tapestry needle 

Suggested Yarns: 
Stone Soup DK, Better Breakfast DK, Kent DK, Chebris Sport, or any DK yarn that knits to the pattern gauge.

Substituting yarn and/or needles may result in a variation in size.

Finished Size:
34(38, 42, 46, 50, 54) inches/86.5(96.5, 106.5, 117, 127, 137) cm in circumference at underarm to fit with 2-4 inches of ease

Yarn Requirements:
sweater: 1220(1400, 1580, 1780, 1980, 2200) yards
vest: 860 (1000, 1155, 1315, 1485, 1665) yards

Gauge:
20 sts and 28 rows  = 4 inches (10 cm) in stockinette (unblocked) on larger needle;
20 sts and 36 rows = 4 inches (10 cm) in tartan pattern (washed and blocked) on larger needle

Needles:
size 4US (3.5 mm) circular for body; size 3US (3.25 mm) circular (or one size smaller than body needle) for ribbing trims and collar

I can't get the correct gauge

I've tried 3 needle sizes, if I go any larger the sweater will look awful. I'm going to have to figure out how to adjust the pattern
