A warm, cushy cap to knit in three sizes (S/M/L) with worsted weight wool that will be much appreciated by anyone on your gift list. Simple cable crosses combine to form an intricate swirl of texture from brim to peak—engaging to knit and delicious to wear. May be worked with a longer double brim (instructions included).

Suggested Yarns: 
Stone Soup Worsted, Kent Worsted, Confection Worsted, Better Breakfast Worsted, Targhee Tango Worsted, or any worsted/aran weight yarn that knits to pattern gauge.


Substituting yarn and/or needles may result in an overall variation in size and density. 

Finished Size: 
14(17.5, 21) inches in brim circumference (unstretched) to fits heads measuring up to 20(23.5, 27) inches around
Note: sizing may be adjusted by using needles one size up (looser fit) or down (tighter fit)

Yarn Requirements: 
140(200, 230) yards
Note: double brim will require approximately 50 yards extra

Gauge: 
26 sts and 28 rows = 4 inches in cable pattern on larger needles (washed and air-dried)
18 sts and 28 rows = 4 inches in stockinette on larger needles (washed and air-dried)

Needles: 
size 7US (4.5 mm) 16-inch circular needle or size to obtain correct gauge; DPNs or second circular needle for top shaping
size 4US (3.5 mm) 16-inch circular needle for brim (or 1.0 mm smaller than gauge needle)
Note: cap may be worked entirely on two circular needles or on DPNS as desired
