A warmly textured, asymmetrical hat in three sizes (S/M/L) that features an openwork panel in leaf motif with button closure to secure the brim. Choose a soft but springy yarn to ensure a well-fitted brim that supports the hat above; the welted fabric will collapse into a slight slouch to one side.
Substituting yarn and/or needles may result in an overall variation in size and elasticity.
Suggested Yarns:
Stone Soup DK, Kent DK, Better Breakfast DK, Ginny DK, Targhee Tango Sport, Confection Sport, or any soft, springy DK yarn that knits to pattern gauge

Finished Size:
16(18, 20) inches around brim and 9(10, 11) inches in diameter (washed and blocked) to fit heads measuring up to 20(21.5, 23 inches) in circumference
Yarn requirements:
190(210, 230) yards
Buttons:
2 round buttons that are .375 inch in diameter
20 sts and 31 rows = 4 inches in stockinette on larger needle (washed and laid flat to dry)
Needles:
size 6US (4.0 mm) 16-inch circular needle and DPNs or size to obtain correct gauge
size 4US (3.5 mm) 16-inch circular needle for brim or .5 mm smaller than gauge needle
