This top-down, boot or knee sock in five sizes (XS/S/M/L/XL) features the deep ribbing and horizontal knit/purl motifs of a classic gansey sweater. Shaping throughout the upper leg is adjustable to ensure a proper fit. Easy-to-work motifs make this project a good traveler that is readily converted to toe-up construction. 

  
Suggested Yarns: 
Shetlandia Fingering, Breakfast Blend Fingering, Stone Soup DK, Better Breakfast DK, Kent DK, Ginny DK, or any springy sock yarn which has approximately 425 yards per 4 ounces. 

Substituting yarn and/or needles may result in an overall variation in size and elasticity.

Finished Size: 
6(7, 8, 9, 10) inches in foot and ankle circumference and 9(10, 11, 12, 13) inches around calf to fit feet measuring up to 7(8, 9, 10, 11) inches and calves 12(13, 14, 15, 16) inches around 

Yarn requirements: 
boot sock: 350(400, 450, 500, 575) yards
knee sock: 400(450, 500, 550, 600) yards 

Gauge: 
30 sts and 44 rows = 4 inches in stockinette, knit flat (unblocked; fabric will tighten to 8 sts per inch when worked in the round) 

Needles: 
DPNs size 1US (2.25 mm), or size to obtain correct gauge 
DPN size 0 US (2.0 mm) for cuff and heel (or .25 mm smaller than gauge needle)
