In the coldest of seasons, a warm hat in a dense, impenetrable fabric is a good defense against the weather. This one is a great example, knit with squishy worsted weight wool in three sizes (S/M/L) for children, teens, and adults. An intricate cabled panel adds attractive texture and maximizes its wind resistance, while soft volume up top helps keep warmth inside where it belongs. For best insulation use a lofty, strong wool that traps air and forms a cohesive fabric surface.
Suggested Yarns:
Kent Worsted, Confection Worsted, Targhee Tango Worsted, Better Breakfast Worsted, Chebris Worsted, or any soft, springy worsted weight yarn that knits to pattern gauge.
Substituting yarn and/or needles may result in an overall variation in size and elasticity.
Finished Size:
15(17, 19) inches in circumference (blocked) to fit heads measuring up to 20(22, 24) inches around

Gauge:
16 sts and 24 rows = 4 inches in stockinette on larger needles (knit flat; unblocked)
Needles:
size 9US (5.5 mm) 16-inch circular needle and DPNS or size to obtain correct gauge
size 6US (4.0 mm) 16-inch circular needle for brim or 1.5 mm smaller than gauge needle
