A cute cowl and mitts set with flirty kick pleats, “plaid” textured patterning, and mock tab closures to knit in three youth and adult sizes (S/M/L). Because these pieces work up quickly in the round using a clever combination of knits and purls, they make terrific traveling projects. The mitts have a sculpted thumb gusset to provide a snug fit.

cowl: 15(18, 21) inches around upper neck (buttoned) and 5(6.5, 6.5) inches in depth
mitts: 5.5(6, 7) inches in circumference to fit hands up to 6(7.5, 8.5) inches around palm

cowl: 21 sts and 32 rows = 4 inches in stockinette on smaller needle (knit flat; unblocked)
mitts: 26 sts and 38 rows = 4 inches in stockinette on smaller needle (knit flat; unblocked)
cowl: size 6US (4.0 mm) circular needle for body (or size to obtain correct gauge)
size 7US (4.5 mm) for hem and size 3US (3.25 mm) to knit button tabs
